A Soma Yoga class begins with gentle movements to open the spine, hips and shoulders, preparing the body to move into yoga postures. Joints become lubricated and spacious. The spine lengthens and opens. An emphasis on breath anchors the mind and calms the emotions. Principles of alignment promote healthy range of motion to muscles and joints. The level of overall bodily tension decreases. Students are gently guided into movements and postures with respect to individual need.

Yoga provides us with tools to consciously develop a particular inner quality. Standing poses build confidence and strength. Backbending poses invigorate and give a feeling of hope. Forward bending poses have a pacifying effect on the nervous system. Each class concludes with Savasana - relaxation - to promote deep rest to body and mind.
